About 2 O'clock in the afternoon, The surfing was stopped.
Waves were app 20 Feet High And Rising Higher. Before
Dark, There Was Flooding In Certain Areas.
Waves Close To 30 Feet High, From A Storm Off Coast Of Japan,
In 2001, were much more destructive than these in 2002. We
were in a cottage at Barbers Point, in 2001. I wrote a poem called
Hawaii Pipeline, which is below the next picture, about the 2001
Surfing Competition.
I Was There! Whee....

Hawaii Pipeline
like a sound breaking jet, the roaring came
rushing....wave upon wave
one straight line shooting across the face
of the ocean
like me grandfather, plowing new earth
only fast as greased lightening
sun glistened diamonds
aqua, million tons of baking soda waves
as swells, like bread rising, MOUNTAINS
inflating
squeezed from both ends
overflowing, awesomely, frightfully beautiful
never seems to stop when it begins
peaking pipeline surfing competition
postponed
as 20 feet waves to 30 feet grows
